France Sees Rise in Crypto-Related Kidnappings, Overseas Kingpins to Blame
France has become a hotspot for crypto-related kidnappings, with over 40 cases reported between 2023 and 2025. According to a leaked police report, organized crime groups have been behind many of these attacks, which often target individuals under the age of 35 who are active in the cryptocurrency market.
The report, authored by the Organised Crime Information, Intelligence and Strategic Analysis Service (SIRASCO), reveals that overseas kingpins are responsible for ordering many of these kidnappings. These masterminds work with intermediaries based in France, who recruit individuals under 30 to carry out the attacks.
According to SIRASCO, victims share a similar profile: they are typically males between 20 and 35 years old who are involved in the crypto world as investors, entrepreneurs, or social media influencers. They often freely flaunt their luxurious lifestyles and crypto-derived wealth on platforms like TikTok, YouTube, or Instagram, making it easier for kidnappers to learn about their daily habits and those of their loved ones.
