BVI Becomes Top Destination for Crypto Businesses Amid Regulatory Certainty
The British Virgin Islands (BVI) has become a hub for cryptocurrency businesses, with many companies setting up shop on the island due to its favorable regulatory environment.
According to a recent report by BVI Finance, the BVI is home to over 25 virtual asset service providers (VASPs), including major players like Kraken, Bitstamp, and 1inch. The BVI has also seen a surge in tokenized security offerings, with more than 305 tokens listed on its platform.
The BVI's popularity among crypto companies can be attributed to its well-established regulatory framework, which provides clarity and certainty for businesses operating in the space. While tax efficiency is no longer the primary driver of choice, as many jurisdictions now offer similar benefits, the BVI's reputation for providing a stable and secure environment has made it an attractive destination.
Orest Gavryliak, legal counsel at 1inch, noted that decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols are increasingly prioritizing regulatory certainty over mere tax efficiency. 'Protocols are now considering factors such as regulations, institutional credibility, and long-term sustainability,' he said.
