Coinbase Unveils AI Trading Agent With Natural Language Commands

p>Coinbase has launched a new product called Coinbase for Agents, which allows an artificial intelligence (AI) agent to operate a crypto trading account on behalf of users. The AI agent can place orders through natural language commands from large language models like Anthropic's Claude or OpenAI's ChatGPT.

The agent requires a separate account and can be associated with the user's main balance on Coinbase, but it can also be walled off with no view of other holdings. Users can give the agent instructions and set spending limits, allowing it to transact on their behalf.

The agent works with Coinbase Advanced, a professional trade execution tool, and currently supports spot cryptocurrencies and crypto derivatives. Stocks and prediction markets are planned for later addition.

However, users should not assume that this system is a shortcut to generating wealth quickly. Picking a large language model, writing prompts, and catching mistakes requires technical ability, and investors should be cautious when using the AI agent.
