However, blockchain researcher William Mougayar argues that the organization is performing exactly as designed. In a post on X, Mougayar emphasized that the EF's primary goal is to steer the Ethereum protocol toward irrelevance for its founders.

According to Mougayar, the EF is on a 'subtraction path,' aiming to reduce its central influence over time by hardening the protocol and shipping upgrades. This approach allows the foundation to become less necessary for the functioning of Ethereum.
