White House Prepares for Crucial Meeting on CLARITY Act Developer Protections

The White House is gearing up for a crucial meeting on Wednesday as it seeks to address concerns over developer protections in the CLARITY Act, a bill aimed at regulating the crypto market structure. According to sources, law enforcement officials will meet with the White House to discuss issues raised by the group regarding the Blockchain Regulatory Certainty Act (BRCA), which provides legal relief for developers of non-custodial platforms.

The BRCA seeks to prevent developers from being categorized as money transmitters, thereby protecting them from potential wrongdoing. However, the issue of how to ensure that decentralized venues are not used for illicit finances remains a contentious point. The meeting comes after a recent push by the industry for the Senate to pass the bill, with over 200 crypto organizations and firms, including lobby groups Stand With Crypto, urging Senate leadership to schedule a floor vote.

The White House's crypto chief advisor, Patrick Witt, has expressed optimism about the progress made so far on the bill. In a recent statement, he noted that 'the issue set has narrowed, and good faith offers are being put forward to close the gap.' However, Witt also emphasized the importance of time, stating that 'time is of the essence' in resolving the outstanding issues.
