Russia Strengthens Crypto Mining Regulations with IP Address Recording

Russia has taken another step towards stricter regulation of its crypto mining sector by expanding the requirements for official registries. According to a recent government resolution, network IP addresses must now be recorded in these registries, along with other business identification details.

The Federal Tax Service, which administers the registry system, maintains separate records for miners and mining infrastructure operators. Access to this data is restricted to state institutions, courts, the Central Bank of Russia, and power grid operators. However, the updated framework will give regulators a more detailed view of each operation's online behavior.

The move aims to improve monitoring of financial risks, regulatory compliance, and energy consumption linked to mining operations. It also comes as Russia has imposed regional crypto mining bans across 10 energy-stressed regions. With this development, the country is progressing towards bringing its crypto mining sector fully under state control.
