Tao ETF Filing Sparks Debate Over Cryptocurrency Performance
The recent ETF filing for Tao's cryptocurrency has brought attention to the digital asset, but its performance is being eclipsed by Near. While both cryptocurrencies have similar market values of around $3 billion each, their economic foundations reveal major differences.
On-chain activity and ecosystem depth are key areas where Near outperforms Tao. Near leads in DeFi revenue, averaging $118,000 in daily fees through decentralized finance applications, which is about 7.6 times greater than Tao's daily revenue of roughly $15,600. Additionally, Near's total value locked (TVL) has tripled over the past three months to reach $183 million.
Tao's Bittensor network functions as an incentive layer for artificial intelligence, rather than a platform for traditional on-chain applications. As a result, Tao does not engage meaningfully with DeFi. The differences in economic performance largely reflect these functional distinctions.
